My Southern country roots are where the influences of my art originate. Being raised on a Christmas tree farm has had many influences on my art and taught me how to be creative in my problem solving. At an early age I was always drawing and creating characters and making my own “toys” with duct tape, soda boxes, pieces of scrap wood and random other materials I found. I made Barbie cars and boats to play with in the creek, while also making myself ruby slippers with tape and glitter. Creating from mixed materials as a child has stuck with me and when I create now as an adult, it is mostly mixed media. My art has progressed from creating toys and playthings, to focusing on printmaking, mixed media art, photography and graphic design. Instead of exploring the creek, now I enjoy traveling and camping, capturing the memories of those experiences with my work through photography and printmaking. Seeing and experiencing places I go inspire what I create. With a love for traveling, I find my subjects all over America and beyond. As a cartoonist most of my younger life, this has led my work to have an animated, cartoon-like feel. Bright vibrant colors also lead my work to have an animated quality to them. Color theory and the ways color play with each other inside each work of art is always a fun challenge From choosing a subject to the final piece of art is a creative process for me. Whether it be a flair of camping, lake vibes, Texas bluebonnets, or just an old hound dog, there will always be a bit of “country girl” in my art.
